Anchor House hosted an inspirational event this week for 60 people with disabilities to enable them to consider training opportunities. Anchor House, the life skills and residential centre for the Homeless in Canning Town hosted a training assessment day for 60 disabled people. The day was organised by Anchor House who is a strategic training partner with Learning and Skills Solutions and the Olympic Delivery Authority.

The day had a nautical flavour as the Paralympic GB SONAR sailing team joined us to talk about their sailing exploits and to provide encouragement.
Keith Fernett, Director of Anchor House said “I was delighted that Learning and Skills Solutions had decided to use Anchor House as the venue and it was great to have all agencies including the Olympic Delivery Authority equality and inclusion team working here in the assessment process. The partners all recognised that by working together great benefits could be derived by the participants.
During the day some 60 training assessments were undertaken that could lead to careers in the construction industry.

Anchor House aims to help homeless residents develop aspirations, confidence and self-esteem to enable them to move towards leading independent, self-fulfilling lives.
We achieve this through providing accommodation in a stable and welcoming environment and through a cross-section of activities carried out using our in-house developed Aspirations Programme, designed and implemented in 2005 in conjunction with residents.
Historically a hostel for seafarers visiting the ports of East London, Anchor House today is a charity based in Canning Town that provides support to over 200 homeless and workless people each year to help them move on to employment and independent living.
