EAST LONDON BASED CHARITY ANCHOR HOUSE HONOURED AT NATIONAL TRAINING AWARDS 2010

East London based Homeless Charity Anchor House, and Aggrie Chikiwa - Anchor House’s Head of Education and Training - have been honoured with prestigious National Training Awards in recognition of their outstanding contribution and commitment to training, learning and development in the workplace.

Anchor House and Aggrie were presented with two Regional Training Awards for an Individual and an Education and Training Provider, and two National Training Awards for an Individual and an Education and Training Provider, at the Greater London Regional Ceremony, held at Chiswell Brewery on Tuesday 12th October 2010.

Run on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) by UK Skills, the National Training Awards inspires and encourages UK industry to invest in training and development as a route to achieving outstanding organisational and individual success. Winning an Award is recognition of best practice and provides a benchmark for standards of excellence in training in the UK. City & Guilds is the premier sponsor of the 2010 National Training Awards.

Anchor House is now invited to the National Training Awards 2010 UK Ceremony, being held in London on Wednesday 1st December. At the ceremony, UK Winners will find out whether or not they have won the overall Winner of the Year Award for their category. They will be up against all the other UK Winners from across the UK in competition for these top awards.

Keith Fernett, Director of Anchor House, said: “The four awards are excellent recognition of the work we undertake in Newham. Clearly our achievements and results were evident for the judges to see. In the most deprived part of the Borough we are an entry-level portal that is helping to change people’s lives. We are all delighted, especially for Aggrie Chikiwa, our Head of Education and Training.”

Anchor House

Anchor House is a Catholic Charity that provides sanctuary and personal development programmes for nearly two hundred people a year regardless of their race, creed, religion and ethnicity.

Anchor House has won two successive Michael Whippman Awards from the national umbrella organisation Homeless Link for Service User Development and Community Involvement.
