Dreading the thought of opening a Christmas present you don’t like? Don’t fret - you can now give the gift to someone who really needs it!
This year 35,680 households in the UK were deemed homeless - without food, shelter and support. But people can help this year by donating their unwanted Christmas presents to Anchor House - a nationally acclaimed homeless charity.
The residential and lifeskills centre located in Canning Town, the third most deprived borough in England and Wales, will sell unwanted items donated to them on eBay and 100% of the proceeds will go to sponsoring a room for a homeless person.
Alternativately, people can also sell their own items via http://donations.ebay.co.uk and choose Anchor House to recieve a donation from the proceeds.
Anchor House is a registered charity providing accomodation for up to 200 single homeless people each year. It also provides a wide range of accredited vocational training courses in construction, electrical, plumbing and distance learning for both residents and the local community. Each quarter the centre attracts 2,500 visitors using its services.
The less ugly Christmas presents out there, the more chances Anchor House's homeless residents have at turning their lives around. And if people are feeling especially generous this Christmas, they could also spread some cheer but simply donating at http://anchorhouseuk.org
Send your unwanted items to:
Anchor House, Fundraising Team, 81 Barking Road, London E16 4HB

Anchor House director Keith Fernett said the eBay charity campaign has already received great support - with its charity patrons Barbara Windsor and Julie Etchingham already signalling interest in contributing items.
"Homelessness rose by 13% this year and it will continue to rise unless we help people to manage the root causes of why they become homeless in the first place," he said.
"Through our eBay charity shop we aim to raise £20,000 over the next year, which will help to support up to 200 single homeless people with more than just a room, but essential life-skills training and education tailored at managing the root causes of their homelessness.
"Once established, the shop will be run by our homeless residents, which is synonyms with our approach of employing our residents within Anchor House as a testament to their journey our of homelessness.
"As proof of the results we have achieved with the publics' support - Oxford Economics last year found for every £1 invested in Anchor House we deliver 398% in benefits to society, which I believe is quite an achievement."
Keith Fernett, Director
Anchor House aims to help homeless residents develop aspirations, confidence and self-esteem to enable them to move towards leading independent, self-fulfilling lives.
We achieve this through providing accommodation in a stable and welcoming environment and through a cross-section of activities carried out using our in-house developed Aspirations Programme, designed and implemented in 2005 in conjunction with residents.
Historically a hostel for seafarers visiting the ports of East London, Anchor House today is a charity based in Canning Town that provides support to over 200 homeless and workless people each year to help them move on to employment and independent living.
